Ultimate Rivals: THE RINK

The Rink was the first project I worked on when I joined BitFry Game Studios. When I joined the team The Rink had just officially released but there was already a large patch in development which introduced several large architectural changes, focused on improving AI, tweaking gameplay abilities, and substantial netcode improvements.

I worked extensively on improving the AI behavior present in The Rink. This system was mostly Unreal Behavior Tree based. I created methods for AI characters to coordinate with one another so that their resulting behavior was more effective and believable.

I played a vital role in creating the infrastructure to better manage athlete attribute data for our growing roster. I also implemented new ways for attributes to affect gameplay, extending a player’s defensive options in gameplay. I also collaborated with artists and designers to design new ultimate abilities.

In the course of my work on gameplay abilities, I worked extensively on Replication systems. I implemented systems which allowed for smooth and competitive online play even on mobile devices.
