Elsewhere
January 2017 - September 2017
Creative director, lead engineer
Elsewhere is an experimental game I created with a team of friends when I was in college. The game was a 3rd person adventure game that emphasized narrative and exploration. The game is set in a forest which leads the play to randomly chosen locations, each containing multiple characters, storylines, and puzzles the player can interact with.
Elsewhere was shown at BFIG 2017 and featured in PC Gamer’s Best Free Games of the Week

I created a level streaming system which would asynchronously load a level in front of the player, creating a seamlessly transition from level to level. The level streaming system could operate at complete random, or be influenced by items the player could equip from their inventory.
I implemented dialogue tree systems which responded to the player’s gamestate, driven by their choices throughout the game. -
I worked with several team members to define the narrative structure of the game as well as write dialogue for our branching scenarios.
We created very different stories for each of our zones that allowed us to explore a variety of ideas. -
Designed gameplay mechanics and art style.
Worked with artists to create content based on direction provided by the writing team. Collaborated with other designers to handcraft various environments and storylines.
